Easy cards that provide a WOW factor are so much fun to make and to share. The card pictured below fits this description. It is also helping me live up to my motto (One stamp set – Three designs – Endless possibilities). This week, I am featuring the amazing Floral Statements stamp set. This is the second card using the stamp set. If you missed the first card, earlier this week, click here to see it.
Now, let’s talk about how to make this card.
- The card base is Crumb Cake cardstock. I waffled on the color for the card base and decided on a neutral background which allows the card front to stand on its own. You may want to experiment with a card base that has a color that corresponds to your watercolored flowers.
- To frame the card front, I cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock just a tad wider and taller than the card front. Again, the subtle background of a frame helps focus attention to the flowers and main design of the card.
- The next layer is the piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the Painted Autumn DSP collection. The key in choosing the piece of DSP to use is to look for a background that will complement the stamp design, a color that is not too dark for watercolor pencils, and a design that is not too busy to distract from the stamp that will be used. I think the DSP on this card is just perfect with the stamp!
- Use Archival Basic Black Ink to stamp the Thanks stamp from the Floral Statements stamp set onto the DSP.
- Now, grab your Watercolor Pencils and just have fun coloring. You’re going to find that your blood pressure will instantly go down! Be patient when you’re coloring. Use a light hand at first to add color. Then, go back over the same areas and add additional colors. The colors in the Watercolor Pencils complement each other well and also blend beautifully. As you can see from the picture below, I experimented with different color combinations. Warning – This is addictive!!
- Finish the card by adhering the Whisper White card stock directly to the Crumb Cake card base. Then, use Dimensionals to add the card front to the Whisper White piece.
- That’s all there is to it! I guarantee you’ll just start on another card when you’re done with the first one.
The main colors that I used for the flowers are shown below.
Check back in a few days. I’m going to share the third card design using the Floral Statements stamp set.
