New Lovely Floral Dynamic EF – I’m Hooked!!

Before I share information about the featured card, please let me give you a little background.  It will make sense in a minute (or two)!

Last month, my mom had two cataract surgeries – one on each eye.  When we got to the hospital at a very early time for the first surgery, neither of us really knew how much time the procedure would take.  As an obsessed stamper (you can identify, right?), I brought a few pre-stamped images and my Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils to use while I waited.  Now, confession time – I did not use a current SU! stamp set.  The stamps I used are from a retired hostess set that focused on nature.  A good friend of mine and fellow stamper gave me the set.  But, I digress…

First, and most important, my mom’s surgeries went very well.  In fact, after both surgeries were completed and the healing of both eyes was underway, she was able to read without glasses.  For years, she has worn a prism on one lens after a nasty fall.

Second, and not as important, I thoroughly enjoyed coloring as I waited for the surgeries to be completed.  It was very relaxing and productive.  In fact, a few of the other folks who were in the waiting area asked what I was doing.  It was fun to share stamping and coloring with them.

If you haven’t added the SU! Watercolor Pencils to your stash, what are you waiting for?  They are really easy to use and add so much depth to your projects.  Just add layers as you work the colors of the image.  I actually “googled” a few photos on my phone to get examples of the colors for blue birds, hummingbirds, and butterflies.  The card I am sharing today highlights a great blue bird stamp.

After I had the coloring finished, I needed to figure out how to add the image to a card and create a fun background that complemented the stamping.  The new Lovely Floral Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder did the trick!  It is absolutely amazing.

I also decided to use my new favorite color, Grapefruit Grove, to the background.  Grapefruit Grove is one of the new In-Colors and is really pretty, especially in-person.  I cut a piece of Grapefruit Grove cardstock to 3 3/4″ x 5″ and used the Lovely Floral Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to add the embossed pattern.  Rather than use the embossed side for my card, I turned the paper to the de-embossed (not sure that’s a word – but, you know what I mean) and used Grapefruit Grove ink to stamp over the de-embossed area.  I used the largest solid image from the Love What You Do stamp set.  I overlapped the stamped images in some places to get an interesting background.  Okay – another confession – I used a stamp from the retired Gorgeous Grunge stamp set to add lines horizontally and vertically in Grapefruit Grove ink.  The result is a really vibrant, almost fabric feel for the background.

One of my absolute favorite retiring stamp sets is Teeny Tiny Wishes.  I was thrilled to see that SU! has a new stamp set called Itty Bitty Greetings.  It is full of wonderful sentiments and various fonts.  I’ve already used it several times of different types of cards.  Guaranteed – It will be on your “have-to-have” list.  The “Happy Anniversary” stamp is from the new Itty Bitty Greetings set.  I stamped it using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and my Stamparatus.

To finish the card, I used Mint Macaron cardstock to frame the blue bird image and also the Grapefruit Grove background.  Circle dies from the Stitched Shapes framelits collection are perfect for the blue bird image and Mint Macaron background.  A piece of gold twine from a Paper Pumpkin kit added the final touch for the focal point image.  The Mint Macaron piece behind the Grapefruit Grove piece is 4″ x 5 1/8″.  A piece of Basic Black card stock, cut to 4 1/8″  x 5 1/4″, is layered behind the Mint Macaron piece.  A card base from Thick Whisper White card stock finishes the card.

I hope you try this technique.  You’ll find stamping on the de-embossed side to be very pretty.  Also, if you combine ink and card stock from the same color, I really think you’ll love the effect.

Below are some of the products that I used to create the featured card.  If you click on any picture, you’ll go to my on-line store.  Remember – Items from the new catalog won’t be available until June 1st, the day of the new catalog launch.

Happy Stamping and Coloring!

Lovely Floral Birthday Card

The retiring Celebrations Duo Embossing Folders gave me the inspiration for these cards.  If you’ve used this embossing folder set, you know the folders are designed to de-emboss the images.  The corresponding stamp set, Happy Celebrations, has many stamps that can be used to stamp over the de-embossed areas to highlight the design.  You have until the end of May (or while supplies last) to add the Celebration Duo Embossing Folders and the Happy Celebrations Photopolymer Stamp Set to your collection.  The retiring products are shown below.

I have thoroughly loved creating with the products from the Share What You Love suite.  The cards pictured below feature the Lovely Floral Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from this suite.  I embossed a piece of Whisper White card stock and then turned the card stock to the de-embossed side before stamping.

The inks I used are from the new 2018 to 2020 In Colors.  I used the gorgeous Grapefruit Grove ink and the awesome Pineapple Punch ink.  The stamped designs are made with the solid stamps in the Love What You Do stamp set which is also part of the Share What You Love suite.  My goal was to get enough color over the de-embossed area to really highlight the floral design.

A piece of Basic Black card stock is added as a frame.  Both the Basic Black and stamped Whisper White pieces are corner rounded.  It’s a little hard to see in the picture – just trust me on this – I also stamped the card base with the solid stamps.  The stamping was done in the same color as the card base and just around all edges.  This gives an irregular, almost marble effect to the card base.

I used a recent Paper Pumpkin stamp for the Happy Birthday sentiment.  A few extra sequins (also from Paper Pumpkin kits) were added to give the card a little bling.  Small pearls are added on top of the sequins.

Now – Go look in the your stash of embossing folders.  I can almost guarantee that you’ll find one that you’ll be able to use to try this technique.  But, don’t blame me if you absolutely cannot live without the Lovely Floral Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  You will love it!

Below are some of the main products that I used to create the featured cards.  The products from the Share What You Love suite are currently available only as bundled purchases.  You’ll be able to purchase the individual products beginning June 1.  Also, the Celebration Duo Embossing Folders and Happy Celebrations Photopolymer stamp set are only available through the end of May or while supplies last.

Happy stamping!

New Ink Pad Design!

One of the changes that you’ll notice in the upcoming new Annual Catalog is the design of the Stampin’ Up! ink pad.  If you have pre-ordered any Share What You Love bundles, you already have a new ink pad (or two) in your collection.

I’ll admit (only to you) that I was a little resistant to the new design when I received my Share What You Love bundle and new In-Color inks.  But, the more I use the new ink pads and the more that I learn new things about them, I am finding that I love the new design.  It is sleek, stackable, and easy to open.  You will love the new look and functionality.

To give all of us more information about the new ink pad design, Stampin’ Up! has created a very informative video.  Take a look at the video below.

Remember, you have until May 31 to take advantage of pre-ordering special Share What You Love bundles.  To get more information about this offer, please click here.

Happy stamping!

Amazing Congratulations – Baby Card

At a recent stamp club, the group made three cards including the fun, fresh baby congratulations card pictured below.

The two other cards that we made are also shown below. I have shared detailed information for both cards. Both cards focused on products in the Share What You Love bundle. Click on either picture below to go to the individual posts.

Here’s a personal confession – I don’t make as many baby cards as I should.  When I saw the Amazing Congratulations stamp set and all the sentiment stamps that come with the set, I was inspired to make a baby card to share at our stamp club.  It was a lot of fun to make, and the design can easily be changed to fit any color scheme.  You will love the flexibility of the Amazing Congratulations set.

Card instructions are below:

  • Start with a Whisper White card stock card base cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ on the 8 1/2″ side.
  • Cut a piece of Dapper Denim card stock to 4″ x 5 1/4″.  This will be the larger frame for the full card.
  • Cut a piece of Pool Party card stock to 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″.  Use the Softly Falling embossing folder and your Big Shot to add texture to this piece.  From the picture, you’ll see that I chose to adhere the Pool Party piece to the Dapper Denim piece to allow the de-embossed side to show.  I thought the pattern looked like stars.
  • Cut a second piece of Dapper Denim card stock to 3 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.  This will be the background piece for the main focal point.  Note that this piece will cover the entire length of the card.
  • Cut a piece of Whisper White card stock to 3″ x 5″.  This is the piece you will use for your stamping.
  • The word “Congratulations” from the Amazing Congratulations stamp set is a three-step stamp.  The Stamparatus makes stamping for this card a piece of cake!  If you don’t have your Stamparatus yet, you will definitely want to add one to your collection.  They will be available for ordering on June 1!!!
  • First, stamp the outline stamp of congratulations in a light blue ink.  I used Pool Party ink.
  • Second, stamp the part of congratulations that includes the full “g” and the full “a” in a medium shade of blue.  I used Island Indigo ink.  If you use your Stamparatus, you can also stamp the swoosh stamp at this point.  This is the design that will go over the words “on your new little one”.  Use the medium shade of blue of your choice.  Again, I used Island Indigo ink.
  • Third, stamp the part of congratulations that includes the full “c” and full “t” in a dark shade of blue.  I used Dapper Denim ink.  If you use your Stamparatus, you can also stamp the sentiment stamp that includes “on your new little one” at this point.  Use the Dapper Denim ink or the dark blue ink that you choose.
  • Add your choice of embellishments to make sure there is a little bling and twinkle to the card.  I used sequins that came in a past Paper Pumpkin kit and some (non-SU!) silver thread.  By the way – I have a lot of leftover bits and pieces from Paper Pumpkin kits that I always find ways to use!

I hope you add this card to your inventory of fun, fresh baby cards.  Obviously, you could use the base design for other occasions as well.  You’ll see that the stamps in the Amazing Congratulations stamp set provide many options for you to use.

Shown below are some of the products that I used to make this card.  If you click on any picture, you’ll go to my on-line store.

Happy stamping!
