NC Demos Blog Hop – Hello Pumpkin Fun Fold

Welcome to the September NC Demos Blog Hop!  This month, we are featuring a pumpkin theme in the projects that we’re sharing.  Stampin’ Up! offers many items related to pumpkins – stamps, ink, paper, ribbon, and more.  It will be fun to see how each of us has used pumpkin in our designs!  And, what better way is there to welcome Fall than by focusing on the humble pumpkin?!

If you just hopped over from Tracie’s post, I know that you’ll agree with me that her project was awesome (as usual).  She is a talented artist.  Thanks so much for stopping by to see what I’m sharing this month.  There is a little back story to my project.

Last in August, I broke my left wrist.  Thank goodness that I’m right handed.  At least, I can stamp (a little anyway)!  Many of my sister NC demonstrator friends and Stamp Club members have showered me with beautiful get well cards.  I am so appreciative of every card that I received.  The project that I’m sharing for this month’s NC Demos Blog Hope pumpkin theme is a CASE of one of the cards that I received.  The original card was made by Toni Campana, a fellow NC Demo blog hopper and friend.  Toni – Thank you so much for the inspiration for this fun fold.  It is beautiful, quick, and incredibly addictive.

Below is a picture of two of the CASEd cards.  Since my wrist is still on the mend, I’m very thankful for designs like this that showcase beautiful Designer Series Paper (DSP) and are straight forward to put together.  The pumpkin theme is highlighted in the DSP and also the Pumpkin Pie ink that I used for the sentiment.  I will warn you that if you make this design, you will be addicted!

The third card, shown below, may be my favorite.  Confession – The Pumpkin Pie ink that I used for the sentiment may be the only true pumpkin color in this card.  But, I just couldn’t resist making a card with this piece of DSP 🙂

Here are the basic instructions for making the card –

  • Start with a piece of card stock measuring 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 to make your card base.  Score the piece at 1 1/4 and 4 1/4, on the 8 1/2 side.  Burnish the 1 1/4 score line into a valley fold.  Burnish the 4 1/4 score line into a mountain fold.
  • Attach a piece of card stock measuring 4 x 5 1/4 to the inside back of the card.
  • Cut a second piece of card stock (same color as your card base) to 2 1/2 x 3 1/2.  This will be the frame for the front panel.
  • Use one piece of 6 x 6 DSP to cut four pieces –
    • First, cut the DSP to 6 x 5 1/4.  Take note of the orientation of the design when you cut 3/4 off the top or bottom.  The smaller piece you cut off will be used as trim (A).
    • From the remaining 6 x 5 1/4 piece, cut a piece measuring 2 3/4 x 5 1/4 (B).  Decide which side of the pattern you want the larger decorated piece to come from.
    • You’ll have 3 1/4 x 5 1/4 left at this point.  From one side of this piece, cut a strip measuring 1 x 5 1/4 (C).
    • You’ll now have 2 1/4 x 5 1/4 left.  Cut this piece down to 2 1/4 x 3 1/4.  This will be your focal point on the front panel (D).
    • You will have a small piece leftover from your original 6 x 6 piece.
    • Reference the picture below to cut your 6 x 6 piece of DSP.

  • The DSP is attached to the card as indicated below.  Note that pieces A and C were turned to the back side of the DSP before adding to the card.  Also note that piece A is cut down to 3/4 x 5 1/4 before adding to the card.

  • Choose your sentiment and ink to finish the front panel.
  • The final touch is your choice of embellishments.  I used the beautiful new Drusy Embellishements.
