Our monthly Stamp Club met last Sunday. We had a great time using many of the products in the Painted with Love Suite. I know – I’ve already posted projects from this suite! But, I have one more to share with you. Then, as promised, I’ll share some more ideas using the Picture Perfect Party Suite! The Painted with Love Suite is making it very easy for me to keep my motto — One stamp set – Three designs – Endless possibilities!
In a prior post, I shared a Valentine’s card made using a new Whisper White Narrow Note Card. If you missed that post, please click here to see it. Today’s card is a similar design but in a traditional A2 card size – 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. From the picture below, you can tell that the gorgeous paper used for the card front is from the Painted with Love Specialty DSP. The words are stamped using an updated “Rock and Roll” technique that I will explain and show you in further pictures.
To create the updated “Rock and Roll” technique, I did use a stamp positioning tool. I don’t have my hands on the Stamparatus just yet, but I should have mine next month. I cannot wait! For the sentiment, I used the “You’re my Valentine every single day” stamp from the Sure Do Love You stamp set. I love this stamp. The font is really nice, and the words say everything and more for your Valentine!
The first step is to choose three ink colors that will work well together. The colors should start with a lighter color, go to a darker color, and then go to an even darker color. I chose Calypso Coral, Melon Mambo, and Berry Burst. These colors also match well to those in the Painted with Love Specialty DSP.
Ink the stamp with the lightest color and stamp onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock. Below is the result using Calypso Coral.
Next, use the second darker color and ink the stamp but don’t ink the middle. You want the middle of the stamp to be Calypso Coral. You may want to imagine inking a circle or doughnut in Melon Mambo. Below is the result after adding the Melon Mambo.
Last, use the darkest color and add just a little bit of color to the edges of the design. In this case, it meant adding Berry Burst to the edges of some of the letters and words. Here is a picture of the final stamped sentiment.
Tip: Make sure you clean your stamp each time you use this technique. You don’t want to re-ink the stamp with your lightest color without first cleaning off the darkest color from the stamp. You could end up with dark ink on your light ink pad.
Take some time to play around with this technique. It is a great way to get a different look from many of the stamps that you already have. Also – I used the Stampin’ Spots that I have collected from my monthly Paper Pumpkin kits to stamp. They are super convenient and very easy to hold to add ink in specific places.
For the next step in the card design, I used the heart outline stamp from the Sure Do Love you stamp set and Whisper White Craft Stampin’ Ink. I was able to easily see the stamped image using the craft ink and could tell if I had missed any spots when I stamped the image. Then, I heat set the heart outline using White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and my Heat Tool. A series of pictures are shown below for the heating embossing steps.
To finish the card, I die cut just inside the heart outline using the largest heart die from the Lots to Love Box Framelits Dies. [Be sure to save the die cut heart piece for another project!] I put dimensionals on the reverse side of the DSP (cut to 3 3/4″ x 5″) just around the heart die cut out and adhered the sentiment in the middle of my heart die cut out. I corner-rounded two corners of the DSP, as pictured. Additional dimensionals were used to adhere the DSP to a piece of Berry Burst cardstock (cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″, corner-rounded as pictured). The Berry Burst piece is directly adhered to a card base of Thick Whisper White cardstock. I corner-rounded the card base on the front and back card pieces.
Below are two pictures that include the smaller Whisper White Narrow Note Card design and the larger A2 card design from this post. Both are truly gorgeous and make very pretty Valentine’s cards!
I hope you have enjoyed getting some fun tips on a slightly updated “Rock and Roll” design. Below are the main product that I used to create today’s card. If you click on any picture, you’ll go to my on-line store.
Happy stamping!
Laurie
