Just Because – Mother’s Day Card

There isn’t a lot of time left for you to get your hands on the beautiful, host stamp set called Just Because.  You can find it on page 54 of the current Occasions Catalog!  I used the “Happy Mother’s Day” sentiment and potted plant image to create the card shown below.  Note:  I took the card picture with a black background.  The card base is a piece of Thick Very Vanilla Cardstock.

Recently, I have been intrigued by cards that have wonky placed stitched rectangle die cuts on the front of the card.  I just love the word wonky, don’t you?  Obviously, you can arrange your die cut rectangles in any pattern that you want.

Below are the basic steps that I used to create this card.

  • Start with a base for your card made from Thick Very Vanilla card stock.  I LOVE thick card stock for the bases of my cards.
  • The rectangle that is adhered directly to the card base is Basic Black card stock cut with the largest die in the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies.
  • The next rectangle that is adhered directly to the Basic Black piece is Garden Green card stock cut with the second largest die in the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies.  You’ll notice that I used a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to add faux stitching to the edges of the Garden Green piece.
  • The focal point of the card starts with stamping the “Happy Mother’s Day” image from the Just Because stamp set with Tuxedo Memento Black Ink onto your choice of paper from the retiring Garden Impressions Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack.  Don’t miss getting this DSP before it is gone!
  • Use your choice of dies from the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies to cut the stamped image into a stitched rectangle piece.  Again, you’ll notice that I used a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to add faux stitching to the edges of the DSP piece.
  • Stamp the “Happy Mother’s Day” image onto a piece of paper from the amazing (and, yes, retiring) Wood Textures Designer Series Paper (DSP).  You really only need to make sure that you stamp the full flower pot and flower onto the DSP.  Use Tuxedo Memento Black Ink to stamp.  Fussy cut the flower pot and flower, as pictured.  Adhere the fussy cut piece to the DSP, as shown.
  • Grab your Watercolor Pencils and color in the leaves and flowers on stamped image.  Make sure you color the flower that is part of the fussy cut piece from the Wood Textures DSP piece.
  • Adhere the finished DSP rectangle piece to the Garden Green rectangle piece.
  • If you would like, add a sequin to give a little pop to your finished card.

I hope you enjoy this design and add it to your list of quick-to-make cards.  Below are the main items that I used to create this card.  If you click on any picture, you’ll go directly to my on-line store.

Happy stamping!
Laurie
