Before I got bitten by the stamping bug, I enjoyed many crafts including stenciling. When I saw the Window Box Thinlits Dies, stamping and stenciling seemed to collide. When you see the picture below, I think you’ll understand what I mean.
But first, take a look at the Window Box Thinlits Dies from the new Occasions Catalog. The set is shown on page 43. There are many unique dies in this set. Rather than cut shapes, many of these dies cut intricate patterns into projects. The result is a wonderful touch to cards, boxes, and even an added touch that takes on the art of stenciling.
This design is great for many occasions. I decided to focus on birthdays since I need to stock up on my birthday card stash. One of my New Year resolutions is to be much better sending birthday cards to family and friends. [For those of you who are family and friends, please still act a little surprised if your birthday card looks like the one below!]

I hope this card inspires you to look at the Window Box Thinlits Dies and other similar dies in a new way. The stenciled image is created by using the hexagon die from the set on a piece of white card stock. Attach this piece of die cut card stock to the front panel of your card. If you use either painter’s tape or a Post-It note, you should limit the chance of tearing your card front. Use daubers and your favorite ink colors to stencil the pattern onto the card front.
When you’re done stenciling and are happy with the results, use the hexagon die once again on another piece of white card stock. This will become the main focal point of the card. Die cut the hexagon die cutout with your choice of dies from the Layering Circles Framelits. I used the scalloped circle framelit that fits perfectly around die cut.
Finish the card with embellishments and the sentiment of your choice. The Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set has many options for sentiments.
