Over the last several months, I have tried to “shop my stash” for card making supplies rather than buying a lot of new products. One of my discoveries is that I have quite a lot of Designer Series Paper (DSP) that I haven’t even opened — yet! I bet there are several of you who can identify with me.
Well – I have the perfect, quick card that you can make with your DSP (unopened or “extras” from packs that you’ve started to use). The card only has three pieces – the card base, a piece of color card stock, and a piece of DSP. The trick is using nested dies to cut your layers.
An example of the card is shown below.
This card looks a lot more complicated than it is 🙂 Follow the steps below to make your own version. You can add a sentiment for any occasion.
Step 1 – Cut your choice of color card stock to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8. Use the third largest die in the Stitched Rectangles Dies collection to die cut a piece from the middle of your card stock.
Step 2 – Stamp your sentiment in the middle of the smaller piece of color card stock. I stamped my sentiment with Versamark ink and then heat embossed it with White Embossing powder. Die cut your sentiment with the smallest slim rectangle die in the Stitched Rectangles Die collection.
Step 3 – Pick a piece of DSP that goes well with color card stock. Use the fourth largest die from the Stitched Rectangles Die collection to cut the middle from this piece. Center your die cut as best as possible. It will be one of the primary layers on the card.
Here are the pieces you will have at this point –
Step 4 – Adhere the layers together. The larger DSP piece is adhered to the larger color card stock piece. The smaller DSP piece is adhered to the smaller color card stock piece. Yes – There will be a hole in the middle of the larger adhered pieces. No worries – It will be covered up!
Step 5 – Add the larger layered piece to the card base. I used the beautiful Crumb Cake color card stock for my card base. It was cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ on the 8 1/2″ side.
Step 6 – Add the smaller layered piece in the middle of the card. If your DSP piece has a pattern, try to line up the pattern as best as you can.
Step 7 – Finish your embellishment and attach it to your card.
Please share the cards that you’ll make with your re-discovered DSP! I would really love to see them.
Below are a few products that I used to create this card. If you click on a picture, you’ll go directly to my on-line store.
Happy stamping!
