Welcome to the May NC Demos Blog Hop! We have such a fun theme this month. Our projects include brand new and previously available products from the current Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog! I hope you just came from Sharon’s post and enjoyed her project as much as I did.
Thank you so much for stopping by to see what I am sharing this month. It was a little difficult to narrow down the new products that I wanted to use since there are so many amazing new items in the Annual Catalog. I decided to use the Flowers of Friendship Bundle as my “something new”. It includes a beautiful stamp set and corresponding punch. For my “something old”, I thought the Layering Circles Dies collection would work perfectly for a fun way to highlight the sentiment. Take a look at the picture below!
Here are the steps I used to create my card:
- Start with a piece of Basic White card stock cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″. Score at 4 1/4″ on the 8 1/2″ side to create an A2 card base.
- Cut a piece of Evening Evergreen card stock to 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″. Use one of the scalloped dies from the Layering Circles Dies collection to die cut a scalloped circle from the middle of this piece. Trust me – Nobody will ever know that there is a hole in this piece of card stock!
- Cut a piece of Basic White card stock to 4″ x 5 1/4″. This will be the focal point for the card.
- Grab your clear blocks and the Flowers for Friendship stamp set. You’ll also need the new Fresh Freesia, Polished Pink, and Soft Succulent ink pads.
- Before you start stamping, get a piece of scrap paper or Post-It note paper and die cut a circle that is just a little bit bigger than the scalloped circle you die cut from the Evening Evergreen card stock. This is going to be a mask that you’ll use for the sentiment area of your card.
- Put the mask where you want your sentiment to be, and let the mask hang over the edge of the card, as pictured below. [Ooops – I took the picture after I stamped the flowers and leaves – but, you get the point!]
- Now, stamp a few of the larger and smaller flower stamps from the Flowers of Friendship stamp set around the mask. Use the Fresh Freesia and Polished Pink inks for this stamping.
- Stamp a few of the larger and smaller leaf stamps next to the flower images. Use the new Soft Succulent ink for the leaves.
- Leave the mask on your card front. Use your Water Painters to splatter some ink drops onto the front of your card. You can control how many and where the ink drops are added. Use Fresh Freesia and Polished Pink inks for this step.
- Before you take the mask off, grab your Blending Brushes and add a little Fresh Freesia ink just around the mask. This will leave a beautiful white frame where you will put your sentiment. Now you can take the mask off.
- Get a few scraps pieces of Basic White card stock for the second, top layer of your flowers. You are going to emboss the flowers with clear embossing powder and heat set them. Check out the video below to get some tips on how to do that and where to place your flowers to minimize wasting paper when you punch out the images.
- After you have embossed the flowers, use your Water Painters to add a beautiful watercolor tint to your flowers. Again, check out the video below to get some tips on how to do this and how to use a block as your palette.
- Another piece of scrap Basic White card stock is the backdrop for the sentiment. Stamp the sentiment with Pale Papaya ink. You can use either the Pale Papaya ink pad or the Pale Papaya Stampin’ Write marker to ink the stamp. Die cut the sentiment with a circle die. Use a circle die that is slightly smaller than the scalloped die used to cut the sentiment frame. Adhere the sentiment to the frame.
- Position the sentiment to hangover the edge of the card. Use some washi tape to lightly tack the sentiment to the card. Turn the card to the back and snip off the part of the sentiment that is hanging over the edge. This will leave you with a partial circle for your sentiment.
- Adhere the large piece of Evening Evergreen card stock to your card base. Next, adhere the focal point with the stamped flowers directly on top of the Evening Evergreen piece.
- Use dimensionals to add the sentiment piece. Line up the straight side of your sentiment piece with the edge of the Basic White focal piece.
- Punch out your water colored flowers with the Flowers & Leaves Punch, included in the bundle. Color the middle of the flowers with Pale Papaya. Gently curl the flower petals with your fingers. Add a dot of liquid glue to the back of the center of the flower. Adhere the punched flowers on top of the stamped flowers on your card front.
- To finish your card, put a few of the pretty Oval Rounds embellishments near the sentiment and flowers.
You can also click on the video below to see how the card comes together. In advance, I apologize for the audio quality in this video. There are also some fun tips and tricks about how to use a punch with multiple shaped images. Enjoy!
As usual, I was convinced that I had enough stamps, dies, and punches that had anything to do with flowers! And, as usual, I was completely wrong!! The Flowers of Friendship bundle is definitely one that you will want in your collection. You’re just going to have to trust me on that!
