Do not blame me if you get addicted to making these! They really are that much fun!
At our recent Stamp Club, one of our projects was Holiday Poppers filled with milk chocolate kisses. Fun poppers + milk chocolate = Delicious fun!!
Here are the directions and pictures to help you make these treats for your family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, teachers, post man, … you get the picture!
Start with a piece of paper measuring 4 1/2″ x 6″. I used the gorgeous Quilted Christmas Designer Series Paper (DSP) for my popper.
Get out your scoring board. On the 4 1/2″ side, score at 1″, 2″, 3″, and 4″. The picture below shows the paper after I scored. It’s a little difficult to see the score lines. [Note: You can use any length of paper to make these. For example, you can use 4 1/2″ x 8″ and 4 1/2″ x 11″. Just make sure your paper width is 4 1/2″. It is really fun to change the length of the popper to accommodate what you want to add inside!] Make sure to use your bone folder to give each scored line a good crease.
Now, grab your Envelope Punch board. You are going to punch at 1″ on each scored crease and also on the open end of the paper. Look at the series of pictures below to see the process.
Below is a picture of the result of punching the first side.
Now, you’re going to punch the other side and mirror the punches that you’ve already done. I started with the open end and worked my way back through the creases. Look at the pictures below.
Below is a picture of how the paper will look when you have finished your punching.
Next, you are going to use Glue Dots to adhere your popper together. You’ll see from below that I put the glue dots on the shorter side. The bone folder is only holding down the paper to allow me to take the picture! I put five Glue Dots on the edge. One on each end and three in the middle section.
I like to position my paper as shown below to glue the popper together. The green/white side of the paper is the one that has the Glue Dots (very close to the bone folder). When I folded the last red piece over and on top of the section that has the Glue Dots, the red piece aligned really well and the Glue Dots were in the right place to adhere the popper together.
Here is the result.
The last few steps include folding the ends, as pictured below.
Then, tie one of the ends with your choice of ribbon, twine, or cord. Add candy (or whatever you would like) to the inside of the popper. From the picture below, you’ll see that this popper will hold four regular size Hershey’s kisses. Tie the other end of the popper closed. And, you’re done! That quick and that fun!
At a recent craft fair, I packaged four poppers together in a bag and added a decorative, festive embellishment to close the bag. They were the best sellers of all the items I had!!
