Our family has recently had two additions! Meet our new great-nieces, Ansley and Elise. My husband, Bruce, and I were fortunate to be able to meet these wonderful little girls last week at Holden Beach, NC during an annual family reunion.
The baby card that is featured in this post is perfect to welcome any little girl. It is very easy to make and definitely holds a surprise inside the card. Below are pictures and some tips for making the card.
Gate fold cards can add a little pop to any occasion. To make this gate fold card, I started with a piece of Powder Pink cardstock cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″. On the 11″ side, make two score lines. One score line is at the 2 3/4″ mark. The second score line is at the 8 1/4″ mark. Use your bone folder to make sure the scored lines are crisply burnished.
The focal point for the card is the absolutely adorable bear from the A Little Wild stamp set. Go ahead and stamp the double bear stamp onto a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock with Soft Suede ink. You will cut the two bear images (one is the front image, and the other is the back image) apart. You can also use the corresponding framelit from the Little Loves Framelit set to cut the double bear image and then separate the two bears with scissors. Color the two bear images with Watercolor Pencils. I used the Early Espresso and Basic Gray (for shading) Watercolor Pencils to color the bear. The Daffodil Delight Watercolor Pencil was perfect for the bee!
To frame the bear, grab your stash of DSP and your Stitched Shapes Framelits. I chose a gorgeous paper from the Share What You Love Specialty DSP. Use the second largest circle framelit to die cut two circles from your choice of DSP. Choose a slightly larger circle from the Layering Circles Framelits set and cut two circles from Soft Suede cardstock. From the bottom, layer one Soft Suede circle, one DSP circle, and half of the bear. Glue these pieces together. You’re going to have one set for the outside of the card and one set for the inside of the card.
Each gate fold is decorated with Soft Suede cardstock cut to 4 1/8″ x 2 5/8″ as the frame, centered and adhered to the gate fold. Add a piece of Powder Pink cardstock cut to 4″ x 2 1/2″ and embossed with the new Tufted Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The pattern looks like a soft baby blanket.
Add the layered, framed bear (the front of the bear) to the outside of the card, as pictured. Add the second framed bear piece (the back of the bear) to the inside of the card. Make sure you line up the circles when you adhere them together.
If you want to add a little more of a whimsical flair, stamp some of the bees from the A Little Wild Stamp Set onto the Very Vanilla cardstock with Soft Suede ink. Use the corresponding framelit from the Little Loves Framelits set to die cut the bees. Color the bees with the Daffodil Delight Watercolor Pencil and add them to your card in a random pattern.
You can add a sentiment to the inside of the card, as pictured. I love the words that are part of the A Little Wild Stamp Set. The sentiment was stamped with Soft Suede ink.
The final embellishment is a piece of twine that is twisted. I added some embossing floss to the middle to add a little color.
