Welcome to the NC Demos October Blog Hop! If you’ve just come from Toni’s post, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that she is a truly talented stamping artist! Thanks so much for stopping by my post.
This month, we are all sharing our favorite things from the current Annual Catalog and/or the current Holiday Catalog. As you’re going to see below, I am really having fun creating snow globe cards with the amazing Still Scenes Bundle and the beautiful Wrapped in Plaid Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP). In fact, I think I may need professional help to stop making these globe shaker cards 🙂 The main products I used to make the cards can be found in the current Holiday Catalog.
I’m definitely a visual person and thought that I would share some pictures of the basic steps I used to make these cards. Note: I was not consistent in taking pictures of the same card for the instructions. You’ll see both backgrounds (cabin and church) in the steps.
- Start with a 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ piece of Whisper White card stock. You will create the background for the inside of the globe on this piece of card stock.
- For the cabin scene, I used many colors from the Watercolor Pencils set to add character to the pretty cabin stamp from the Still Scenes stamp set.
- For the church scene, I used several dies from the amazing Snow Globe Scenes Dies collection to make the background. The paper colors include Shaded Spruce, Garden Green, Sahara Sand, and Daffodil Delight. Tip: Make sure you adhere the die cut pieces as flat as possible. That will minimize the amount of sequins that may get behind the die cut pieces.
- Next, add a “pinch” or two of the gorgeous Snowflake Sequins on the center of your design.
- Grab a Snow Globe Shaker Dome and peel off the waxy paper covering the adhesive on the bottom side of the dome. Place the dome directly over the background you’ve created, and rub your finger around the bottom of the dome to make sure the adhesive is sticking well.
- Take a piece of the Wrapped in Plaid Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) and cut it to 4″ x 5 1/4″. Use the globe die from the Snow Globe Scenes Dies to cut the globe shape in your DSP. Save the extra pieces you’ll have after you cut your DSP . In my next post, I am going to show you how to create amazing mosaic embossed cards with the scraps!
- Peel off the waxy paper covering from the top of the Snow Globe Shaker Dome on your background piece. Place the DSP over the Shaker Dome so the die cut dome shape fits over the dome. Again, rub your finger around the dome to make sure the adhesive is sticking well.
- Cut a card base from Thick Whisper White card stock to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″. Score and fold the 8 1/2 side at 4″ 1/4″ to create the card base. I recommend Thick Whisper White card stock for the base since it has a nice weight and will, literally, stand up well to the shaker dome. Adhere the DSP to your card base.
- In the Snow Globe Scenes Dies collection, you’ll find two dies that can be used to make the dome base. I used both on my cards. The solid dome base is layered behind the filigree dome base. There is also a stamp in the Still Scenes stamp set that can be used for the dome.
- I used scrap metallic card stock for the dome bases. Any color card stock that will blend well with your background will be perfect. This is a great way to “shop” your stash to find the perfect paper!
- Attach the dome base just under the shaker dome using dimensionals.
- The final embellishment for your card is really your choice. You’ll see from the picture below that I used various metallic twine and various ribbons to finish my cards. Confession – I did use some retired DSP in some of the cards that are pictured.
- In my opinion, the front of the card doesn’t need any sentiment. Instead, I think the message sentiment from the Still Scenes stamp set is just perfect for the inside. The font is wonderful, and the message is timeless.
- Take a breath and admire the card you just created. I guarantee that you’re just going to want to start making another one. Yes – These cards are that addictive 🙂
At the bottom of this post, I have included pictures of the products that I used to create these shaker dome cards. If you click on any picture, you’ll go directly to my on-line store.

Laurie, some may say you need an intervention, but I think your plaid and snow globe cards are wonderful! Thank you for sharing your current favorite things!
Thank you, Tracie! If you could see my craft room with all the snow globes, I think you would agree that I do need intervention 🙂
