Welcome to the September NC Demos Blog Hop! If you just came from Ronnie’s post, I know you will agree with me that her projects were simply amazing! I cannot wait to go through everyone’s post and see the 2-for-1 projects that are being shared. What a fantastic theme?!?! With one design, there are so many possibilities to simply change ink colors, sentiments, paper patterns, and embellishments to get a completely different result.
Thank you so much for stopping by to see my 2-for-1 cards. The design is CASEd from an awesome Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, Connie Stewart. Be sure to check out her original post that inspired my cards. Below are pictures of the first of my two pop-up cards. The top view shows how the card can easily be displayed.
Here are pictures of the second of my two pop-up cards. I don’t know which card I prefer. But, it’s easy to see that with a change in colors, sentiments, and embellishments, the cards look completely different. The beauty is that they are made using exactly the same steps and dimensions!
Here are the steps that I followed to make the cards –
- Cut a piece of cardstock to 5 1/2″ x 9 1/4″. For the first card, I used Lost Lagoon cardstock. For the second card, I used Pecan Pie cardstock.
- On the 9 1/4″ side, score your cardstock at 1 1/2″ and 2 3/4″. Turn your paper 180 degrees, and score the other end of your cardstock at 1 1/2″ and 2 3/4″. Fold and burnish your card base as shown in the top view of the pictures above.
- Use a piece of 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) to create the focal points for your card. For the first card, I used the Inked Botanicals DSP. For the second card, I used the All About Autumn DSP.
- Pay attention to the direction of the pattern in your DSP. A good example of this can be seen in the second card. I needed to make sure that the bookcase picture was going to be vertical on my card. Cut off 3/4″ from the bottom of your 6″ x 6″ piece. You’ll end up with a piece measuring 6″ wide and 5 1/4″ tall.
- Cut the 6″ x 5 1/4″ DSP piece into three pieces. Two pieces will be 1 1/4″ x 5 1/4″. The remaining piece will be 3 1/2″ x 5 1/4″.
- In both cards, I used DSP that has designs on the front and the back that work together well.
- The 3 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ DSP piece is adhered to the center of the card.
- The two DSP pieces measuring 1 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ are adhered to the sides of the card, as pictured. I simply turned these pieces over and used the design on the back side of the paper!
- I decided to use the 3/4″ strip that I cut off my original piece of 6″ x 6″ DSP as decoration on the front of my card. You’ll see that strip on both cards matches the design in the DSP on the sides. I thought the strip helped bring the design together.
- Both sentiments were simply stamped onto a scrap piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. For the first card, I used a sentiment from the Trucking Along stamp set and Lost Lagoon ink. For the second card, I used a sentiment from the Autumn Leaves stamp set and Copper Clay ink. I trimmed the sentiments using my paper trimmer.
- Before I added the sentiments, I decided to add a little ribbon to the cards. For the first card, I used some of the silver Simply Elegant Trim. For the second card, I used a piece of the gorgeous Copper Ribbon that comes with the Natural Ribbon. The ribbon is adhered directly over the strip piece.
- The sentiments are added with dimensionals to give them a little more pop!
- Finally, the cards needed some bling, right?! Both cards have a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels and a few of the fun 2023-2025 In Color Dots.
- To add your message, simply cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock to 3 1/2″ x 5 1/4″. Add that piece to the back of your card, as pictured below.
This is such a fun card design with infinite possibilities. I absolutely love quick designs like this especially around the holidays. Just imagine how many fun pop-up cards you can make for the upcoming holidays. And, just imagine how much of your DSP stash you can use to make your cards! I see you smiling at that thought 🙂
