Layering Love – One Layer Card Magic

Hopefully, you’ve had time to look through the amazing new Stampin’ Up! annual catalog.  There are many new products that are on my absolutely-have-to-have list.  Trust me – the list is getting very long!

I decided to combine something old and something new to create the card shown below.  The something old is the very versatile Timeless Textures stamp set.  The something new is the Layering Love stamp set that offers so many options.  These two stamp sets, the five new in-colors, and a great one layer card technique combine to make a stunning card.

Here are the directions for the card:

  1. Create a white cardstock card base cut to 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ on the 8 1/2″ side.
  2. Using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, stamp “Live Laugh Love” from the Layering Love stamp set in the center of the card front.  I chose to stamp the words on a diagonal.  Play around with this design to figure out how you would like to stamp the words.
  3. Cut a strip of copy paper to 2 1/4″ wide.  Center the strip of copy paper over the words to mask them from stamping.  You’ll be able to see the stamped words enough through the copy paper to center the mask.  Fold the copy paper over the edges of the card, and adhere the ends to the back of the card.  I used painter’s tape to tack down the ends.  Painter’s tape will help prevent tearing of the card when the tape is removed.  Leave the copy paper attached to your card until you have finished all your stamping.
  4. Use a dauber and the Peekaboo Peach ink to add color along the edges of the copy paper.  This will give a great definition to the center of the card and help give depth to the one layer design.  Don’t worry about getting ink on the copy paper.  You’re going to!  But, it will act as a barrier to getting ink on your stamped words.
  5. Now, grab all the new in-colors and the Timeless Textures stamp set, and be artistic in creating the background for the card.  No two cards are going to look alike!  Below are a few close-up pictures of the detail and texture of the results of my card.  I absolutely love how all the shapes, colors, and “textures” work together.  Just have some fun with this.
  6. Gently take off the painter’s tape from the back of the card to remove the copy paper mask.  You’re going to be amazed with the result and the one layer card that you’ve created!

I’m sure you are going to love this technique and find many stamps in your stash that will work to make stunning one layer cards. I have made a few birthday cards with this technique that I’ll share in a separate post.

Below are the supplies that I used to make the card. If you click on any image, you’ll go to my on-line store.

Happy Stamping!
