Sending Flowers Rainbow Card

Given everything that is going on with coronavirus right now and the constant information that we have on TV new channels, social media, and other outlets – I am making sure that I get a daily dose of stamping and cardmaking.  The creativity factor is helping me maintain sanity and focus right now.  I hope you can find the same effects by getting your hands inky!

For those of us who are avid stampers, I truly believe that we have been given the gift of creativity.  Now is the perfect time to share our gift with others.  Let’s flood the mailboxes of our family and friends with handmade cards!

Below is one of the cards that we made at a recent Stamp Club.  It is so bright, cheery and would be a perfect card to send to someone who needs to be reminded that you care during this trying time.

Below are the instructions to make this card.  It’s pretty straight forward and comes together quickly.

  • The base is a piece of Whisper White card stock cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ on the 8 1/2″ side.
  • The next layer is a piece of Daffodil Delight card stock cut to 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″.  It is adhered directly to the card base.
  • The beautiful rainbow colors come from one of the pieces in the Pleased as Punch Designer Series Paper (DSP) that is part of the Coordination Product ReleaseRemember – The products in this release are only available through the end of this month, March 2020.  The DSP piece is cut to 4″ x 4″.
  • Another product in the release is the Sending Flowers DiesThis die set is amazing.  The main die is an incredible focal point for so many different kinds of cards.  I’ll be honest that I didn’t pay a lot of attention to this set the first time I looked at the products in the release.  But, thankfully, I saw many cards on-line that feature the collection and changed my mind!  Trust me – you need to get these dies before they are no longer available.  You’ll thank me for the suggestion 🙂
  • Use the largest die from the set and a piece of Whisper White card stock, cut to 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″, to die cut the beautiful focal point of this card.
  • Adhere the DSP piece behind the die cut piece.  Tip:  Put a small amount of glue on the flower pieces (you don’t need any glue on the stems) and around the frame of the die cut piece when you adhere it to the DSP piece.
  • Attached the die cut/DSP piece to the front of the card with dimensionals.
  • There are some beautiful rectangle dies in the Sending Flowers Dies collection as well.  I used the one that has the scalloped edges to highlight the sentiment for the card.  The sentiment is from the SAB stamp set called Sending You ThoughtsIt is a Level 1 SAB gift (FREE with a $50 order, before tax and shipping).  I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of Granny Apple Green card stock using Memento Tuxedo black ink and die cut the sentiment using the scalloped edge die.
  • Use the same scalloped edge die with Daffodil Delight and Petal Pink card stock to cut the pieces that go behind the sentiment.  Tip – Cut each of these pieces in half and adhere each half behind the sentiment, as pictured.

  • The sentiment piece is finished by wrapping Linen Thread on the left side of the sentiment.  You can add a bow to finish, if you would like.
  • Adhere the sentiment piece to the front of your card.  For the piece that will go over the die cut, only use glue.  For the bottom of the sentiment piece, use dimensionals to adhere.
  • The final touches are the butterflies.  They are die cut with the smallest butterflies in the Butterfly Beauty die collection.  I used Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, and Petal Pink card stock.  Adhere them where you would like to the card.
  • If you want to add one more touch, you can always use the Pearl Basic Jewels to dress-up the center of the flowers.  By the way – I did notice that the second flower from the left is missing its pearl center.  I promise it was there at some point 🙂

I hope you enjoy making cards using this design or something similar that is all your own.  Be sure to share your gift of creativity with you family and friends.  They may really need that right now.
