NC Demos Blog Hop – Welcome to Fall

Welcome to the NC Demos September blog hop!  I hope you just came from Dawn’s post.  Wasn’t that an amazing project that she shared with us!  Thank you so much for stopping by to see the card I am sharing this month.

As I’ve mentioned before, I truly am addicted to the slim line card design.  To me, it is very sleek and provides a fun, different perspective.  Plus, I love the fact that the design will fit into a business or resume sized envelope for easy mailing 🙂

Below is a picture of the card that I made to feature this month’s theme of celebrating Fall.  It has been wonderful to have cooler weather in central North Carolina over the past few weeks.  And, it has been a real treat to be able to wear jeans and a comfy sweatshirt and not feel too warm.  Fall is definitely my favorite season of the year.  Combining my love of Fall and my addiction with slim line cards was actually pretty easy.  I like to think of the result as a simple yet elegant card.

It’s nice to have some simple designs in our list of options for card making.  As you’ll see below, the steps you’ll take to make this card are pretty straight forward.  But – be warned – you will become addicted to slim line cards (if you’re not already).  And – you will use this design for many occasions.  Remember – I did warn you!

  • Start with a piece of Thick Whisper White card stock cut to 8″ x 8 1/2″.  Score at 4″ on the 8″ side and fold your card.  The 4″ x 8 1/2″ card is the standard size that I have been using to make my slim line cards.  This size fits very easily into a business or resume (A10) sized envelope!
  • Choose the color card stock you want for the front of your card, and cut it to 7 7/8″ x 8 3/8″.  This will leave you with a very thin border on your card front.  I chose the beautiful Fall color of Pumpkin Pie for my card.
  • Grab your Stamparatus and some Cajun Craze ink.  Stamp the sentiment “Hope Changes Everything” at an angle onto the Pumpkin Pie piece.  This sentiment is included in the Love of Leaves stamp setDoesn’t the “Hope Changes Everything” sentiment just make you smile?  It is so perfect for our current environment.
  • Next, pick out a piece of DSP that will work well with the color you chose for the front of your card and the embellishments that you will be adding.  I chose one of the gorgeous pieces of plaid DSP from the Plaid Tidings 6″ x 6″ DSP collection.  The colors in this collection are really amazing and can be used for many, many occasions.  And, this collection is one of the collections that will be on sale with a 15% discount during October!
  • Cut three strips of the DSP to 6″ x 3/4″ each.
  • Cut a piece of Pumpkin Pie card stock (or whatever color you chose) to 2 1/2″ wide to, at least, 6″ long.  This is the piece that you’ll use to adhere the strips of DSP.  See the picture below.

  • Adhere one strip to the bottom edge of the card stock.  Adhere another strip to the opposite edge of the card stock.  Adhere the third strip in between the two that are already adhered.  You’ll have a great visual to put the third piece on to make it look like it is in the center.  See the pictures below.
  • Grab a few pieces of washi tape.  Get some of the tack off the back of the washi tape to make sure it isn’t too sticky.  Put the card stock piece with the DSP strips underneath the stamped sentiment so the card stock is at the same angle.  Attach the card stock piece to the card with the washi tape.  Now, you have the card stock aligned so you can trim it to perfectly fit on your card.  Turn your card stock over, and trim the edges to be flush with the edges of the card stock.  Please see the series of pictures below that visually explain the steps.
  • Adhere your stamped card stock piece directly to the front of your card.
  • Using dimensionals, adhere your card stock/DSP strip piece to the card front.  This piece will lineup perfectly with the edges of the color card stock since you cut it to fit.
  • Add your chose of embellishments to finish your card.  I added a few die cut leaves that were made with the Stitched Leaves Die collection.  The leaves were cut from Pretty Peacock and Cajun Craze card stock to match the colors in the Plaid Tidings DSP.  The largest leaf was cut from the gorgeous Brushed Metalics card stock.

  • The final bling are three of the Blue Adhesive-Backed Gems.  Two are placed to border the sentiment, and one is tucked up underneath the largest leaf.

I really hope you give this design a try, and I would love to see what you create!  Now, please continue by hopping on over to see what Amy has created to share this month.  Also, below you can see everyone who is participating in this month’s hop.  Be sure to visit everyone’s post!

I haven’t made a slim line card. I must put that on my list! I love the card, the plaid, the leaves, the metallic- so pretty!

I love when you can use up a bit of that wonderful scrap paper left over from the DSP! I want to dry this with some of my left overs of my Snowflake Splendor DSP. Wonderful card.
