Creating a visual depth of color on a one-layer card has always intrigued me. Getting a “2 for 1” deal using a simple twist to ink layering is an extra bonus! I hope you enjoy this simple technique that might just make you look at your stamps and dies a little differently.
The cards shown below were essentially created at the same time. They feature the Quiet Meadow bundle which includes the Quiet Meadow Stamp Set and the Meadow Dies. Both products are absolutely gorgeous by themselves. When used together, they are simply amazing!
Here are the steps that I used to create these cards. [Below there is also a link to a video where you can see the cards made.] –
- Start with a piece of Basic White card stock measuring 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, scored at 4 1/4 on the 8 1/2 side. This is a standard A2 card base.
- Choose three (or as many as you want) dies from the Meadow Dies collection to die cut the shapes from Basic White card stock. Use a two-way glue pen (or another product like Pixie Spray) to add a tacky, Post-It note like feel to the back of the die cuts.
- Place the die cuts on to the front of the Basic White card base.
- Grab your Blending Brushes and three ink colors to use on your card front. I used Magenta Madness, Bumblebee, and Misty Moonlight.
- Use the text stamp from the Quiet Meadow stamp set and Cinnamon Cider ink to stamp the text randomly on the card front. Be sure to stamp over the die cuts.
- Next, use the flower stamp and Misty Moonlight ink to stamp on the card front. I decided to use the second generation of the ink for this stamping. Check out the video below for more information.
- Last, use the dots stamp and Just Jade ink to stamp dots on to the card front.
- When you are done with your stamping, peel off the die cuts. You will be left with white outlines where the die cuts were adhered. And, you’ll use the stamped die cuts as the focal point for your second card!
- Stamp “You’re too kind” with Cinnamon Cider ink on to a piece of Basic White card stock. Use one of the dies from the Meadow Dies to die cut the sentiment. Cut a piece of Cinnamon Cider card stock to put behind the sentiment. If you want, wrap the Cinnamon Cider piece with gold twine before adhering the piece to the card front with dimensionals. Add the sentiment with dimensionals.
- A gold twine bow and a few pieces of bling finish the card. The bling includes Genial Gems and Opal Rounds.
- The second card is made from a piece of Crumb Cake card stock as the base. The card stock is cut to 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, scored at 4 1/4 on the 8 1/2 side. Again, it’s a standard A2 card size.
- A piece of Cinnamon Cider card stock is cut to 4 x 5 1/4 to be the frame for the focal point.
- A piece of Crumb Cake card stock is cut to 3 3/4 x 5 for the focal point. This piece is then embossed with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder.
- Adhere the focal point and frame pieces directly to the card front.
- Next, adhere your stamped die pieces to the focal point piece.
- Make the sentiment by stamping the Love stamp from the Quiet Meadow stamp set with Cinnamon Cider ink on to a piece of Basic White card stock. Die cut the sentiment with the small tag die in the Meadow Dies collection. Die cut another small tag from Cinnamon Cider card stock.
- Layer the two tag pieces together. Add some twine to the tag. Adhere the sentiment piece directly to the card front.
- Finish the card with some bling including Genial Gems and Opal Rounds.
And, there you have a “2 for 1” project completed and two cards made!!! Now, go and look at your stash to check out other dies that can be used in this technique. You may be surprised at how many dies you have that you’ll be able to use.
